Modern is legit the only HVAC I will use in DSM. They know what they are doing and whole maybe not always the least expensive in the moment, they have saved me thousands over the lifetime of my systems by doing them right.
Tired of window air units and space heaters, we went on an HVAC journey to update the second floor of our 100yr old home, which was freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer. Silas talked us through our options and system design, and Steve, Tom, and the whole crew did an amazing job on the installation. We will absolutely use Modern in the future. They are a fantastic group of people.

Modern Heating & Air replaced our entire HVAC system over the summer. They were incredible to work with from the beginning. Our air went out when it was extremely hot this summer and their staff dropped off a portable air conditioner to our home to get us by until they did the installation. Their scheduling staff took time to answer my (many) questions, and all of the staff that worked on our system were so kind when they arrived and throughout the day at our home. They walked me through all of the updates and I wasn’t rushed with follow up questions. Pricing was really fair, and I could not recommend this company more for any HVAC needs.
Trevor was awesome and did a great job educating me on my specific unit and what to do to troubleshooting and get peak performance.

Tim came out to check my system after it’s initial installation and again here a year later for a fall maintenance check. I always throw a lot of questions at service techs, and Tim is really good. He answers every question & has been very competent and thorough on each visit. I appreciate that kind of service – especially on a new purchase.I didn’t realize that I could add to a previous review? This must be a couple years later? Several of our last services have been performed now by Trevor. He’s very knowledgeable and answers any question I have. I almost expect him to come out now. I can count on him & appreciate his professionalism.

I just had these guys replace my central air system after my compressor shorted out. Corbin got me a great price for the new system, got me scheduled right away, had it all replaced in a half day and walked me through everything they did. Great communication and service. I HIGHLY recommend them if you’re needing anything HVAC related.

After our HVAC system went out, our daughter told us to give Modern Heating and Air a call. She is a client and speaks highly of them. I got in contact with Corbin who recommended the right size system for our home and he was able to give us a good price. Corbin got the ball rolling and had installers at our home within days. The installers, Aaron B and Karen K, know their job and can answered questions that Gordon had. Both were very knowledgeable and friendly. They worked steady all day and we had “AIR” that evening. Trevor arrived to get our ac up and running during the hottest and I’m sure busiest season. He showed at the promised time and performed the repair quickly and efficiently. We were very pleased with the service! Overall good experience. I would probably consider Modern for our future hvac/pluming needs!
When our HVAC was going out, after living in our fully renovated home for just 3 years, we had to deal with the home warranty to replace the unit with an upgrade program (to be fair it was a 35+ year old HVAC, but worked). Modern Heating and Cooling was chosen as the vendor through the warranty. Nick worked tirelessly to get the warranty to pay a credit toward the full install (including several hours on hold). Steve walked us through code updates, but coming and taking thorough notes and measurements, and gave us the specs to create a new doorway/ access door to the HVAC, to meet new code. Chrystal at dispatch kept me updated along with Nick on the process of getting new equipment after paying. And the day of, Thomas and Darren were professional, kind, and walked us through everything with our new HVAC. After a month without AC in the heat of July, we finally slept soundly, and our house is so comfy now. Our nearly 100 year old home is now 100% fully renovated and we couldn’t feel more blessed. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!

Our experience with this organization was excellent. Our first contact was patient and understanding about our frustrations. He explained options and connected us with Corbin who helped us with questions and clear information. I would recommend them for all heating and air needs.
Our AC went out on a Monday at like 3:30PM. After freaking out because it was like 95 degrees outside with a heat index warning, I called our home warranty and they booked with these folks. I immediately turned around and called them and asked for after hours support since it was so late in the day and they told me one of their technicians would be out shortly and gave me a 2 hour window. Jake arrived literally 20 mins later.Let’s be real, nobody likes having broken stuff. And summertime can be pretty harsh for homeowners. As a first time homeowner and a dog-dad of 3, it’s absolutely scary when stuff like this breaks. But these folks gave the absolute best service that anyone in our situation could ask for. They were such a pleasure to work with, their integrity absolutely blew me away, all their staff was incredibly knowledgeable and very prompt, and our technician, Jake, was an absolute legend.This was my first time working with you folks and it, without question, will not be my last. Big shoutout to Jake, Crystal, and Nick plus the rest of the team for all that you do. Thank you so so much for all your help restoring our AC. You all are truly incredible.
Modern is here installing our new air conditioner today. Not a fun expense, especially with our house only being 8 years old. But, the peace of mind that comes with trusting Jacob Burkhart and his company is invaluable.
I had a small request to move an air duct. After an initial review, they left for 30 minutes. When they returned, they completed the job in less than 30 minutes. Tech was super friendly and knowledgeable. They are prompt and good at communicating. Very happy with their service! Highly recommend!
Modern Heating & Air has got to be the best outfit in the Des Moines Metro area for all your HVAC needs. I cannot recommend them highly enough- not sleezy, not pushy, not trying to find ways to upcharge you. Super professional but also super chill. I felt like each person I interacted with became my buddy and I’m pretty picky about my buddies. Just do it. Work with them.For the those who want a longer story:I had an old system that needed to be replaced. The sales guy that worked with me (Corbin) was fantastic. Listened to what I needed, did a great in-person survey of the house, and gave me honest and informative answers to my many questions. He didn’t push me or try to upsell me on crap I didn’t need. He gave me several options within my budget and walked me through the cost/benefits of each option. Super helpful. He found me some discounts and worked it all out with my schedule. Fast and smooth process with regular check-ins along the way.The install team was even better. Really cool guys who were all professional, clean, well-mannered, and funny. (Listening to their friendly banter while they worked was quite entertaining.) Aaron (install leader) was again very knowledgeable, walked me through everything they were doing, answered my questions, and did a great job. They left the place better than they found it in every way, and did it fast. They had to do a lot of stuff as they were refitting and upgrading from an old system over 30 years old but they got it all done in less than 8 hours.A week later, the system is running great and hasn’t given us any problems at all. The new thermostat has been easy to use and everything about our air system is better now. I can’t recommend these guys enough and will be telling all my friends about them.
Corbin went above and beyond to get me the system we needed withing our limited budget. Thomas came out and installed the system and was great at explaining the system and dealing with our dogs. I am super happy with the service all around.

Extraordinary service! The day the furnace quit I had another company give me a quote and an appointment for installation 10 days in the future. And, there were things about that bid that left me uneasy, such as telling me I needed a furnace twice the BTUs as my house requires. The next morning, Corbin came, gave me a competitive quote, and concisely answered all the questions my research had left me wanting answered. Six or seven hours later I had an appropriate-for-my-house furnace installed and warming both my cold shoulders and the cockles of my heart. I cannot think of any ways the experience could have been better. If only every home project could be as effectively and pleasantly executed as the Modern Heating furnace installation was done!
